A five-member Xiamen CIFIT delegation headed by Mr Su Yuqun, Deputy Director General, Liaison Department of CIFIT Organising Committee and Xiamen Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, arrived in Wellington on 13 April for a brief visit.
The main purpose of the visit was to promote the 16th China International Fair for Investment and Trade held on 8-11 September in Xiamen. The delegation met with WXA President Chris Lipscombe, WXA Secretary Liqin Mi, and committee members Amy Wu and Ella Liao. Delegation and committee members were joined by WXA Vice-President Janet Andrews and local business and government representatives at a dinner organised by WCC and hosted by WCC Councillor Jo Coughlan.
Mr Su suggested during the dinner that Wellington City could be profiled at this year’s CIFIT to mark the 25th anniversary of our sister city relationship. Chris Lipscombe acknowledged the offer and commented that the support of partners like WCC, WECC and NZTE would be required to make this happen. A specific proposal will be delivered on behalf of the delegation to the WXA President at the end of April.
